Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Maphumulo in 1976 in Umlazi, Durban, grew up surrounded by music. His passion for music was ignited in his youth, where he was influenced by various genres, including jazz and traditional African sounds. After studying music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, he began his career as a DJ in the late 1990s, quickly gaining recognition in local clubs and events. In 1995, a car accident left him with a permanent disability in his left arm, but he did not let this setback deter his ambitions. Instead, he embraced it, using his unique perspective to drive his creative output. His determination and talent soon caught the attention of the local music scene, leading to his first big break with the release of his debut album, “Black Coffee,” in 2005.
