Homey Feels: Where Art, Culture & Township Magic Meet This Dezemba!

Benoni gets its own arts festival and it’s about to feel like home.

Dezemba is finally here, and with it comes the joy, the warmth, and the unmistakable buzz of festive groove across Mzansi. This year, Ekurhuleni’s creative scene is stepping into the spotlight with something fresh, intimate, and proudly local – Homey Feels, a one-day township arts festival bringing the magic of theatre, music, fashion, food, and culture right back to where it all begins: home.

Taking place on 19 December 2025 at the iconic Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni, Homey Feels promises an experience that celebrates South Africa’s artistic heritage while uplifting the township cultural economy. The festival is proudly supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) Programme, a national initiative aimed at positioning the arts as South Africa’s “new gold.” If Dezemba had a heartbeat, this would be it.

Under the theme “Home is where the art is”, Homey Feels isn’t just another festival — it’s a movement to reclaim and revive township arts spaces. Local artists, storytellers, musicians, fashion designers, and culinary innovators will transform Sibikwa into a living, breathing ecosystem of creativity.

Attendees can expect:
🎭 Award-winning theatre
🎶 Live music from rising stars

⭐ Theatre Headliner: Yangthola!

Homey Feels will feature the internationally acclaimed, multi-award-winning theatre production Yangthola!, starring Naledi Award-winner Alex Sono (uBettina Wethu, SABC1).
Written and directed by the award-winning Mongezi Ntukwana, this gripping story follows a street recycler who turns discarded items into provocative art, blending puppetry and raw human storytelling.

🎵 Musical Spotlight: Tshepang Dean

Vocalist and pianist Tshepang Dean brings a youthful fusion of R&B and pop, crafted alongside industry heavyweights including Aron Halevi, producer and founder of Freshly Ground. Expect smooth vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and truly South African sonic soul.

🎨 Creative Marketplace: “Homey Stalls”

From emerging fashion designers to craft brewers and culinary creatives, the festival’s stalls promise that authentic township vibe – the kind that “slaps like Mamzo’s Sunday kos!” Featured producers include Wine by Goat and Kapital Keggs, among many others.

Why Homey Feels Matters

While the festival offers entertainment and festive joy, it also plays a role in cultural upliftment. Through the support of the Mzansi Golden Economy, Homey Feels contributes towards job creation, economic activity in the arts sector, and the revitalisation of community spaces.

And there’s no better venue than Sibikwa Arts Centre, a multi-award-winning Centre of Excellence recognised for nurturing talent, promoting cultural access, and building meaningful creative careers in South Africa.
