Honouring BASA’s Debut Programme: A Celebration of Vision, Impact & Gratitude

In a country rich with talent, culture, and creative spirit, opportunities are often the missing bridge between potential and possibility. But every once in a while, an initiative emerges that does more than fill a gap, it transforms lives, inspires communities, and shifts the future of the creative economy. The Debut Fund Programme is supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture through Business and Arts South Africa.

As Imbizo Magazine, we stand with profound gratitude, deep admiration, and heartfelt pride as we celebrate the BASA Debut Programme, a beacon of hope for young emerging creative entrepreneurs across South Africa. This programme does not simply train creatives; it ignites them. It does not just fund ideas; it nurtures purpose. It does not only teach business; it builds futures.

And today, our pride runs even deeper because our very own founder has been selected among the Top 53 Catalyst Creative Entrepreneurs, a moment that reminds us that dedication, resilience, and passion do not go unnoticed. This achievement is a powerful testament to what platforms like BASA make possible.

BASA Debut Online is more than a digital platform. It is a national movement — inclusive, accessible, intentionally crafted to launch and showcase young creatives and their business ventures. Powered by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), the programme is built not merely to inspire, but to equip.

The numbers speak volumes, but the impact speaks heart: Over 2,140 young creatives submitted their dreams through a simple 1-minute WhatsApp video. Each video was more than an entry, it was a voice asking to be heard, a story hoping to be seen.

Kickstarter Phase – Apr to May 2024

From all nine provinces, 450 creatives were selected, with 420 actively participating in the online workshops.
This phase lit the first spark — teaching creatives that their ideas are valid, and their stories matter.

Hlanganisa Phase – Jul to Sep 2024

Only 205 creative entrepreneurs advanced.
The room grew smaller, but the vision grew sharper.

Catalyst Phase – Nov 2025 to Feb 2026

Just 53 creatives – the Catalysts – were selected for an intensive, life-shifting mentorship journey across eight expert-led sessions.
These 53 did not simply join a programme; they stepped into purpose.

Catalyst Bootcamp – Feb 2026

The final 53 will gather again — this time for a transformative, week-long bootcamp with industry leaders.
This moment is not just training; it is a rebirth of innovative creatives.

And Imbizo Magazine’s founder stood among these exceptional few — a moment we honour with humility and gratitude.

The Heart of the Programme

In the words of Zanele Madiba, BASA Programmes Manager: “The Debut programme is more than just a platform for training, resources, mentorship, and funding. It’s a catalyst for turning dreams into reality, empowering young creatives to transform their creative ideas into lucrative business ventures that enrich their communities.”

This is exactly what South Africa needs, not just creatives who dream, but creatives who build. Not just artists who perform, but artists who own, lead, and thrive.

As Imbizo Magazine, we extend our deepest appreciation to Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) for investing in the next generation of creative entrepreneurs.

Thank you for believing in young people.
Thank you for nurturing the creative economy with intention, structure, and heart.
Thank you for reminding us that where there is mentorship, opportunity, and support — there will always be excellence.

Our founder’s inclusion in the Top 53 Catalyst cohort is not just a personal honour; it is a victory for the community we serve, the artists we uplift, and the cultural stories we are committed to telling.

A Future Built on Collaboration

The Debut Programme stands as proof that when business, arts, and purpose meet — the results are transformative.
As Imbizo Magazine, we are inspired to continue our mission with renewed passion:
to promote creatives, preserve culture, uplift untold stories, and build a thriving African creative ecosystem.

We celebrate BASA.
We celebrate the Debut Programme.
We celebrate every young creative brave enough to dream.
And we celebrate the future — because it is brighter than ever.
