Business and Arts South Africa Launches Supporting Grants 2.0: Empowering Bold Ideas in the Creative Industry

Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) has unveiled an exciting new chapter in its flagship initiative — Supporting Grants 2.0 — designed to fuel innovation and experimentation within the creative sector. Applications are officially open until 10 September 2025, offering a powerful opportunity for artists, innovators, and cultural entrepreneurs to bring their early-stage ideas to life.

The revamped programme shifts the focus towards supporting prototypes, bold experiments, and fresh ideas at their most critical stage — when creatives are testing and refining their projects before scaling up. This evolution reflects BASA’s commitment to nurturing a dynamic, sustainable, and inclusive creative economy in South Africa.

To mark the launch, BASA CEO Beth Arendse and Supporting Grants lead Sipho Mthiyane will host a webinar on 2 September 2025, unpacking this bold new direction and providing insights into how the new funding model will empower creatives across the country.

The Supporting Grants 2.0 programme is made possible through the generous support of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, reinforcing government’s commitment to fostering innovation and resilience in the arts.

With this shift, BASA is encouraging creatives to dream bigger, take risks, and experiment fearlessly — ensuring that South Africa’s cultural landscape continues to thrive with bold new voices and pioneering projects.
