Today marks a major milestone in South African music as Ntunja, the renowned traditional folk singer-songwriter and member of the iconic Mahotella Queens, officially releases her highly anticipated debut EP, Dawa Yangu (My Remedy). Dropping on the 20th of September, during Heritage Month, Dawa Yangu is a powerful celebration of African culture and musical tradition, blending futuristic sounds with nostalgic rhythms that honor her roots.

Fresh off her feature as the cover star for our Africa Month edition in May 2024, Ntunja’s release is already making waves. Known for her distinct, soulful voice, Dawa Yangu brings her African authenticity to the forefront, with each track offering a deeply personal yet universally relatable journey through sound.

A highlight of the EP is the track Anguwunakile, a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Busi Mhlongo, whose work continues to inspire Ntunja’s musical path. With Dawa Yangu, she combines a rich palette of African influences, crafting a body of work that resonates with emotional depth, cultural pride, and spiritual empowerment.

In the lead-up to today’s release, Ntunja teased her audience with a special collaboration track featuring iconic South African artist Dr. Buselaphi and AFRIMA Award-winner Askia from Cameroon. This collaboration gives listeners a taste of the immersive experience Dawa Yangu promises—a rich blend of African rhythms, forward-thinking melodies, and a deep spiritual connection to the continent.

As she embarks on the next chapter of her musical journey, Ntunja is set to perform at several venues in the coming days to celebrate the release, including:

  • Made in Mzansi – Freedom Park, Pretoria (September 12th)
  • Café 69 – Plot 08, 10th Road, Withoek Estate, Brakpan (September 12th)
  • Inside Art Sunday Soul Fest – Sebothoma Hall, Hammanskraal (September 12th)
  • UMP Festival – Malawi (September 12th)

Ntunja’s debut EP reflects her mission to spread messages of love, empowerment, and African pride through music. Dawa Yangu is now available on all digital platforms, and with today’s release, Ntunja solidifies her place as a force to be reckoned with in the African music scene.
