Gone are the days of dry policy announcements and feeling unheard! The Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFSA) Ekurhuleni is revolutionizing the creative landscape, and they’re taking their mission across the region, from Katlehong, Thokoza, and Vosloorus to Benoni, Wattville, Tsakane, Langaville, Duduza, Kwathema, and Tembisa. Their recent roadshow has brought a wave of empowerment, support, and opportunities to local artists.

A Creative Revolution

This was not your typical community meeting. Imagine a dynamic team arriving in your neighbourhood, not just to discuss, but to champion your creative dreams! From July 9th to 13th, 2024, the CCIFSA Ekurhuleni team transformed into advocates for the creative sector, reaching every corner of Ekurhuleni. Their mission? To serve as a catalyst, propelling the Ekurhuleni creative scene to new heights.

Knowledge, Connections, and Opportunities

The roadshow provided invaluable knowledge to local creatives. CCIFSA Ekurhuleni demystified complex government policies, empowering artists with the information they need to seize new opportunities. The event was a two-way street, featuring networking sessions that sparked connections and potential collaborations among filmmakers, musicians, designers, and other creatives. This melting pot of creative energy promised to ignite new and exciting projects.

Resources, Opportunities, and Recognition

CCIFSA Ekurhuleni arrived with a wealth of resources, including information on markets, funding opportunities, and upcoming masterclasses and exhibitions. These are the essential elements needed for creative ideas to take flight. No longer will brilliant concepts be stifled by a lack of knowledge or resources to bring them to fruition.

Artists’ Gratitude and Optimism

Local artists expressed their happiness and gratitude for CCIFSA Ekurhuleni’s efforts. They appreciated that the organization is now coming directly to the people and is willing to work with them to develop the community. This direct engagement has instilled a sense of optimism and collaboration among the artists, who are eager to contribute to and benefit from the initiative.

Building a Creative Utopia: Collaboration is the Key

The roadshow was a collaborative effort, partnering with the Federation of Gauteng Community Art Centres (FGCA) to address the challenges faced by local artists. These included limited access to dedicated art spaces, the sharing of art centres with churches, and restrictive bylaws governing usage times. Together, they advocated for improved access to art centres, extended usage times, and the implementation of the Ekurhuleni Public Employment Programme (EPEP) to revitalize these creative hubs. Imagine art centres buzzing with activity, no longer hindered by outdated restrictions.

The Beat Goes On: A Thriving Creative Future

The CCIFSA Ekurhuleni roadshow was more than just a series of meetings – it was a declaration. It resounded with the message, “We hear you, we see you, and we’re here to supercharge your creative journey!” By fostering inclusivity, collaboration, and addressing the challenges that stifle creativity, CCIFSA Ekurhuleni is paving the way for a thriving future for the region’s creative sector.
