Rorisang is a triple threat: voiceover artist, seasoned host, and producer with experience in both radio and television. Her versatility and adaptability have made her a go-to talent for a wide range of projects, including her work as a vocal advocate for mental health. Exclusive interview:
  • Q: Many people aspire to be in front of the camera, but what made you choose scriptwriting and voice acting?

A: I think it’s actually the other way around, scriptwriting chose me. I’ve always thought I wanted to be the star of the show and be in front of the camera, but I think it comes with the pressure of looking prim and proper. With radio I thought the juice was being behind the mic.

I discovered something so magical about putting together a script though when I was tasked with it. I think there’s so much beauty in putting ideas on paper and seeing them come to life, and painting a picture and allowing people to let their imagination run wild with just words and your voice. In terms of voice overs I just love how I can use my voice to be anything I want to be and express it in my comfort without the stress of how I may look physically. I caught on the voice over train a little later though when people kept praising my voice. I then did more research on what I can actually do with it and that’s when I decided to tap into that space more.

Q: What other projects have you worked on during your time in the media industry, and how has your journey been so far?

A:So I have been fortune to do some voice over work for an amazing kids production called The Adventures Of Sniffles and just a few other voice over projects. I’ve also had a pleasure to MC for a woman’s empowerment programme called #Buildawoman. Another interesting journey I’ve just embarked on is that of theatre acting and currently working on my showcase project for grad. My ultimate favorite project is my mental health awareness show Mamello – The Chat that’s part of the Mamello – The Mental Movement brand I’m trying to grow and there I produce and present the show. My journey has been a roller coaster, to be honest. There have been times when I’ve felt like giving up, but my passion for the art has always kept me going. I’m still learning and growing every day, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Q: Can you tell us about your childhood? Has the media industry always been your career destination, or have you considered other ventures?

A: I’ve always had the creative bug since childhood. I remember always trying to imitate the presenters I saw on the screen after they would say their links. As you grow older though you want something more “serious” to help sustain you considering the state of the media industry in our country, so I went the corporate route. I just never quite fit in in the corporate space though, I’d always feel miserable.

I then decided to take the leap of faith and decided to pursue my passion more intentionally. To be honest I think this is more of a calling than anything I can’t seem to run away from it, it always comes back to get me.

Q: What is your perspective on the importance of mental health in everyday life?

A: Taking care of one’s mental health every day is of paramount importance because it helps you navigate through life as a whole as we are faced with different challenges every day. I’ve stopped believing in that we will only rest when we are six feet under because we have to be able to enjoy this life we are working so hard on building. So balance is quite important there should be time to work, a time to rest and a time to also enjoy your life.

Q: When it’s all set and done, how would you like to be remembered?

A: I want to be remembered as the girl who made the an impact in people’s lives no matter how big or small .I want to be remembered as the girl with the infectious smile and amazing voice that went after everything she’s ever wanted!
