Jive for Kasilami: Vosloorus Begins the Journey to Represent the East Rand

Vosloorus is stepping into a powerful new chapter as Jive for Kasilami launches its first phase right here at home. Leading this movement is renowned Vosloorus choreographer and dancer, Sibusiso Mthembu, who will be representing Vosloorus as the township begins its journey toward challenging other kasis in the next stages of the competition. This is only the beginning.

The upcoming auditions will select 10 dancers from Vosloorus and the greater East Rand who will move forward to represent the area against other townships in future phases of the TV show. The vision is clear: build a strong local team first — then take the battle to the rest of the country.

“In Vosloorus there is a lot of amazing talent and young dancers don’t get big opportunities or exposure. I wanted to bring the platform closer to them so they don’t have to travel far to chase their dreams.”

Phase One: Building Team Vosloorus

The first step is to identify the strongest representatives from the township. Once selected, these dancers will carry the Vosloorus flag as they prepare to compete against other Townships (Kasi) in the next rounds.

With R150,000 prize money and national television exposure at stake, the opportunity goes beyond competition.

“The prize money can change someone’s life, but even more important is the TV exposure. Dancers can build careers, get jobs, and be seen by the whole country.”

This platform is about positioning Vosloorus as a serious cultural contender.

Audition Details

  • Date: 14 February 2026
  • Time: 15:00
  • Location: Between Khoza Road and Mabuya Road at BKS, next to Indab’ila Car Wash, Vosloorus
  • Age Requirement: 18+
  • Format: Individual auditions

The atmosphere promises to be exciting, energetic, and professionally organized.

“They can expect a professional but friendly environment. There will be registration, warm-ups, and then performances in front of judges. They should come prepared, practice their routines, dress comfortably, and bring positive energy.”

What It Takes to Represent Vosloorus

As choreographer leading this initiative, Sibusiso is not only looking for talent — he is building a team that can compete beyond the township.

“I want dancers with confidence, passion, and strong stage presence. Not just good moves, but people who enjoy dancing and can connect with the audience.”

Since the competition will move into television stages and inter-kasi challenges, personality matters just as much as technique.

“Technique is important, but confidence and personality matter just as much. On TV, people must feel your energy. We want dancers who can perform, entertain, and tell a story.”

A Cultural Movement, Not Just a Competition

The auditions celebrate diverse township dance styles, ensuring that every expression of kasi culture has a place.

“Dance is about culture and expression. Our communities have many styles, so we want everyone to feel included. Diversity shows our true South African talent and creativity.”

From Vosloorus to the broader East Rand and even future rival townships like Soweto, the vision is to prove that Vosloorus can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best.

Inspiring the Next Generation

“Don’t be afraid. Everyone starts somewhere. Believe in yourself and just enjoy the moment. This is your chance to shine. Confidence can take you very far.”

Beyond selecting 10 dancers, the hope is to ignite something bigger within the community.

“I hope it brings hope and motivation to young people. I want the community to see that talent from Vosloorus, the East Rand, and places like Soweto can compete on national platforms. This can grow arts, keep youth busy, and create more opportunities.”

As Phase One begins, Vosloorus is not just hosting an audition — it is assembling a team.

The question now is simple: Who will rise to represent Vosloorus when it’s time to challenge the other kasi?
