Funding Opportunity: How Concerts SA’s Mobility Fund Is Powering Growth in the Creative Industry

The South African live music scene has long been the heartbeat of our creative sector — giving voice to the untold stories of our communities, preserving cultural traditions, and creating much-needed jobs in the arts economy. In an exciting development for 2025, Concerts SA is once again offering its Live Music Mobility Subsidies through the FEC 2025 Mobility Fund and applications are now officially open!

This initiative isn’t just about putting on shows; it’s about growing the industry, nurturing emerging talent, and creating sustainable economic opportunities within the creative sector. Artists and music professionals can apply for financial support of up to R45,000 towards their touring costs, whether performing locally in South Africa or across the Southern African region.

The creative economy thrives on mobility. Touring artists don’t just perform they create jobs for sound engineers, graphic designers, photographers, event coordinators, and venue staff. Every show staged is an opportunity for dozens of professionals to earn a living while contributing to the rich tapestry of African music.

By promoting live, original music, the Mobility Fund allows artists to expand their audiences, promote new albums or projects, and establish connections beyond their home cities. This also helps address one of the ongoing challenges faced by musicians: funding constraints that limit their ability to reach new markets and grow their brands. Preference will be given to women, youth, and those performing original music, reinforcing a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and the preservation of authentic South African stories through song.

Job Creation Through Touring
Every funded tour benefits not just the artist, but an entire ecosystem:
• Live sound technicians and engineers get employed.
• Graphic designers and content creators market the shows.
• Photographers and videographers document performances.
• Venues, transport operators, and accommodation providers gain business.
• Local dancers, poets, and opening acts often get stage time, giving rise to collaboration and exposure opportunities.

This chain reaction of opportunity is exactly what the creative economy needs to recover, stabilize, and grow post-pandemic — and the Mobility Fund makes it possible.

If you’re planning a tour between 15 July and 15 October 2025, don’t miss out on this opportunity. Applications close on Sunday, 8 June 2025 and are open to South African citizens and residents. Apply via: https://iksafrica.com/?na=view&id=37
