The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture has officially re-opened the nomination process for candidates to serve on the Council of the Market Theatre Foundation, a prominent performing arts institution based in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This initiative is in line with the Cultural Institutions Act, 1998 (Act 119 of 1998), and seeks to appoint qualified individuals who will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of this esteemed institution.

Desired Qualifications and Expertise
Nominees should have a broad understanding of and experience in various fields, including but not limited to:
- Performing arts management
- Financial expertise
- Legal affairs
- Marketing and liaison
- Fundraising
- Education and cultural/social research
- Corporate governance
- Community service engagement
Appointed members will be remunerated in accordance with the National Treasury guidelines, as stipulated in the Cultural Institutions Act.
Submission Requirements
To ensure a fair and transparent selection process, nominations must include the following:
- A letter with the nominee’s full name, address, and contact details, along with reasons for their nomination.
- A recently updated Curriculum Vitae, including three contactable references.
- A signed statement from the nominee accepting the nomination and outlining their suitability for the role.
- Certified copies of qualifications and ID documents.
Incomplete nominations will not be considered, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If an applicant has not been contacted within three months of the closing date, they should assume their nomination was unsuccessful. Suitability and background checks will be conducted before final appointments are made.
