Attention all South African creatives! The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) has heard your concerns and extended the application deadline for the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) and Target Groups funding program.
What is the MGE?
The Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) is a government initiative designed to stimulate economic growth and job creation within the creative industries sector in South Africa. This initiative provides funding opportunities for a wide range of creative projects, from film and music production to visual arts and digital media.
Who Can Apply?
The MGE is open to a diverse range of individuals and organizations, including:
- Independent artists and creatives
- Creative SMEs
- Cultural institutions
- Non-profit organizations
What Kind of Projects Are Funded?
The MGE supports a variety of creative projects that have the potential to:
- Generate economic growth
- Create jobs
- Promote South African culture and heritage
- Develop skills and capacity within the creative industries
Some examples of funded projects include:
- Film and television production
- Music production and distribution
- Visual arts and crafts
- Digital media and gaming
- Performing arts
- Heritage and cultural projects
The new closing date for applications is Friday, 10 January 2025, at 5:00 PM (17h00).
Don’t wait until the last minute! The DSAC advises applicants to submit their applications well before the deadline to avoid potential system overload that may occur with a last-minute rush.
Important Dates to Remember:
- Planned system maintenance: Please be aware that the eservices.gov.za portal will undergo scheduled maintenance downtime from Friday, December 6th, 2024, at 6:00 PM (18h00) until Sunday, December 8th, 2024.
