Nothende Madumo, a name synonymous with soulful melodies and rich, eclectic sounds, has carved out a significant place in the South African music industry. From her early days in Mafikeng to international recognition, Nothende’s journey is one of passion, perseverance, and constant evolution. In an exclusive interview with Imbizo Magazine, she opens up about her musical roots, the challenges she’s faced, and her unwavering commitment to empowering the next generation of artists. Nothende’s love for music was nurtured from a young age. Born in Mafikeng and later raised in Pretoria, she was heavily influenced by her grandfather, a jazz and classical music enthusiast. “He had an open mind and eventually bought me my first instrument and tape,” she recalls. This early exposure to diverse musical genres sparked a curiosity that would eventually lead her to explore various sounds and styles, setting the foundation for her future as an artist.

While Nothende wrote her first song at the tender age of 11, it wasn’t until adulthood that she truly connected with her purpose in music. “I knew music was something I had to do when I wrote that first song, but my true calling was realized after significant experience in the industry,” she explains. This realization was pivotal, guiding her through the complexities of the music world and shaping her artistic identity.

Throughout her career, Nothende has collaborated with some of the industry’s most iconic figures, including Khuli Chana, Prokid, HHP, and Frank McComb. Each collaboration has left an indelible mark on her artistry. “Prokid’s work ethic, Jabba’s creativity, and Frank McComb’s vocal prowess taught me invaluable lessons,” she says. These experiences not only refined her sound but also reinforced her belief in the power of artistic synergy
