South African opera singer Sibongile Mngoma recently delivered a powerful and thought-provoking address on social media, highlighting critical issues concerning racial equity within the nation’s classical music scene. Mngoma, renowned for her exceptional operatic talent, courageously spoke out against the injustices and challenges faced by Black artists in the industry.
Driven by a desire to empower artists who often lack sufficient representation, Mngoma established the “I’m 4 The Arts” platform. She recounted a specific incident where artists were denied rightful compensation due to disregarded contracts, solidifying the very reason behind her platform’s creation – to combat such exploitation.
